WHAT REMAINS

A hundred-year ruin that still stands up to the stars every night.

I'd shot Jowell School a time or two and it just never clicked. I got a cool shot of the mile marker sign once, but never the school and its remains. Then one night I got lucky. The moon was full and hanging at just the right angle to give me just the light I needed to capture the place as it looked that night. And as if that wasn't enough, a truck came running down the road heading west, and its headlights are what lit up the wall in the monolith shot. Nothing staged. Again, God led me there at that time.

What surprises me most is how undisturbed the site is. Where I'm from it would've been trashed or tagged at the very least. Out here, it's respected."
